Ahem, what about the brilliant Booker T. Jones and “Green Onions”? As one of the most recognizable instrumental songs in the past 50 years, this omission brought tears to my eyes. Here it is from last year’s Americana Music Awards show:

Great post. Found this after watching “Scott Walker: 30 Century Man” on the Sundance Channel. Excellent documentary that traces Walker’s career from pop star to avant garde artist.

Thanks for the song, Beth! I never really thought of the story from the girl from Clapham’s perspective before listening to your version. I liked the way you lenghtened the time in the incubator from 30 minutes to several hours. I think that’s a lot more realistic ;-) Have you tried your hand (and voice) at any other Squeeze songs? I’d love to hear your take on Labelled with Love

Their name could also have summed up the Irish performance against Germany. It literally means The Dead Trousers, so I suppose an English equivalent would be something like A Pile of Turd

I’ve been guilty of a few Whitney covers myself, nothing ever recorded, thanks be to jaysus. I was always partial to a little “One Moment in Time” or was it “The Greatest Love of All”. Not 100% certain, they all kind of blend together in a Radio Dublin 100FM (post Century Radio, pre-Radio Ireland, now Today FM) mishmash of lovesong cheese. God, I miss Radio Dublin.
